dena and the World Energy Council form partnership

At the World Energy Leaders’ summit on 12 and 13 September in Mexico City, dena and the non-governmental organisation the World Energy Council (WEC) agreed on a strategic partnership for the global energy transition (Innovative Acceleration Partnership). Together they aim to promote climate-friendly innovations and international discussion of them through dena’s ‘Start Up Energy Transition’ initiative (SET).

The aim of the SET initiative is to provide a platform for pioneers of the global energy transition, and to establish an international network of companies, start-ups and sustainably managed organisations. It is based on the approach that energy transition and climate protection can only become global models for success with the help of innovation.

Together, the partners aim to promote the ‘Start Up Energy Transition’ award around the world. The award is presented to the start-ups with the best ideas and visions for global climate protection. Over 500 start-ups from 66 countries applied in 2017. Based on these, dena has published a list of the Top 100 international energy transition start-ups (#GET100).

dena is to announce the start of the next round of applications in November at the World Climate Conference in Bonn. The 2018 SET awards will then be presented next spring as part of the German Federal Government’s Berlin Energy Transition Dialogue (BETD). Once again, the winners will be announced on the day before the BETD, at dena’s  international Tech Festival in Berlin. Here the start-ups will have a chance to network with companies and investors.

The WEC organises the World Energy Leaders’ Summit twice annually in different countries. This gives decision-makers from the worlds of energy policy and industry in the relevant country a chance to meet and discuss the latest items on the global energy agenda. dena’s Chief Executive Andreas Kuhlmann and Thorsten Herdan, Head of the Energy Policy II Department at the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy, took part in the summit in Mexico.
