Powering Off-grid Communities by Empowering Women

“Without the rural women… in off-grid African communities that come and work for Jaza, there wouldn’t be a solution. Diversity and inclusion isn’t an afterthought, it is the ‘how’ our model works.” explains CEO and Co-Founder Jeff Schnurr

Founded in 2015, this Canada-based and Africa-focused start-up works to empower over a billion people without access to clean energy, one solar hub at a time. A 100% operated by women, their distributed network of charging hubs are one-stop energy shops, with solar panels on the roof and 60Wh-180Wh solar batteries ready to be rented. These can generate enough energy to power hundreds of homes. Currently operating at 86 off-grid locations within Nigeria and Tanzania, their mission is to show that there is a viable market for clean energy in Africa and to create an infrastructure that companies can build on top of.
