We are excited to announce that SET will be hosting several sessions at the 7th Berlin Energy Transition Dialogue (March 16-17) and during the Berlin Energy Week (March 15-19).
7th Berlin Energy Transition Dialogue
The 7th Berlin Energy Transition Dialogue will take place on March 16-17, 2021 with the motto “Energiewende – Towards Climate Neutrality”. This year’s edition will feature European Commission President, Ursula von der Leyen.
The BETD is a leading international forum for key stakeholders of the energy sector, involving high-level policymakers, industry and science leaders, and civil society. The German Federal Government, the German Renewable Energy Federation (BEE), the German Solar Association (BSW-Solar), the German Energy Agency (dena) and eclareon are at the heart of the initiative.
SET has always played an important role in the BETD and its Berlin Energy Week, bringing together the most promising energy start-ups, leading investors, and innovation-minded corporates. Together with BETD, we aim to create a platform that bridges the private and public sector, nurtures innovation and fosters the global energy transition.
The Berlin Energy Week (BEW)
To offer the most inspiring event, the BETD will once again be framed by the Berlin Energy Week (March 15-19). This week will include SET100 start-up pitches, guided tours, workshops and business-to-government formats.
The BEW and the BETD offer a great opportunity for attendees to get to know the most innovative start-ups from the energy and mobility sectors.
Panel: Financing Innovation! – March 17, 2021, 4:15pm – 4:45 pm (CET)
Innovative energy solutions are vital to achieving our sustainability targets that will ensure a green future. Technological innovation, pushed by public and private expenditures on research and development, is a major driver for this change. With this, effective financing of start-ups and innovators is playing an important role.
This panel will delve into how private and public funding can be successfully channelled towards technologies and business models to combat climate change. The panel will feature James Airbib (CEO,RethinkX), Gina Domanig (Emerald Ventures), Dr. Maximilian Bock (High-Tech Gründerfonds), and Shell Ventures who will also explore specific good practice examples to illustrate how public and private funding drives innovation forward and what start-ups need to look out for when accessing it.

This year’s SET100 start-ups will present you their business model and introduce you to their innovation. Indeed, each start-up will present a quick one-slide pitch followed by a brief Q/A session.
The SET100 start-ups are the top selection of our 543 start-ups from 89 countries that applied in 1 of 5 categories of this year’s SET Award to showcase their solutions to tackle climate change.
Government Pitches – March 19, 2021 1:00pm – 2:00pm (CET)
States around the world are increasingly investing in innovative solutions, which could pave the way for a successful energy transition. Countless programmes have been developed to partner up with start-ups working towards sustainability and climate neutrality.
Representatives from Germany Trade and Invest (GTAI) and the Swedish Energy Agency will join us to present the attractive funding programmes available for start-ups in Germany and Sweden. In addition, they will be sharing insight on best practices and leading investors in their respective ecosystems.
The Evening Reception – March 16, 2021 7:30pm – 9:30pm (CET)
The theme of the traditional Evening Reception will be Joint Challenge meets Innovative Solutions. The event will also take place as an exciting online event and focus on the connection between art and sustainability. In addition, the 15 finalists of the SET Award 2021 will be announced in the course of the evening.
