SokoFresh, a Kenyan social enterprise, reduces post-harvest losses by up to 40% through two service lines: a full-service model and a rental business unit. The full-service model provides cold storage at the farmgate, cutting losses during transport, while the rental model offers flexible access for smaller producers. SokoFresh operates 29 cold storage hubs, supporting crops like avocados, mangoes, Soya Beans, among others. Its mobile solar-powered cold rooms, with 535-watt panels, store up to 5 metric tons, maintaining temperatures between 4-15°C for horticultural produce and sub-zero for meat, fish, and dairy. IoT technology enables real-time monitoring of temperature and humidity, with standby technical support. By boosting farmers’ incomes by 30% and creating over 2,000 rural jobs, SokoFresh enhances food security and reduces CO? emissions by 3.6 metric tons per unit annually, promoting sustainability in Kenya’s agricultural value chains.
